What is a mantrap door system?
A mantrap is generic term for a security system that monitors and controls two or more interlocking doors in a vestibule that separates a non-secured area (outside) of the building area from a secured (interior) area. These interlocking doors allow only one door to be open at any time. Other descriptive terms used for this type of system include: Access Control Vestibule™, entrance control system, access portal, access control system, entrance portal, and security vestibule. The Novacomm Access Control Vestibule™ (ACV) is the only U.S. patented "mantrap" door system that screens for weapons.

What is an Access Control Vestibule™?
The Access Control Vestibule™ is the premier mantrap entrance door system that uses weapon detection screening. It consists of a bullet resistant aluminum frame enclosed by bullet resistant glass, and a bullet resistive ceiling. The frame is divided into two separate compartments: one for entry and one for exit. Passage through each compartment is controlled by a set of two interlocking doors. Entry doors and exit doors are totally separate systems. Control of the doors is achieved through the use of exit devices, magnetic locks, infrared sensors, and a metal detector.

Is the Access Control Vestibule™ or mantrap cost effective?
The Access Control Vestibule™ allows an existing employee within the control and monitoring area to handle most issues. They can dispatch authorities to the premises if a situation requires it. Posting a guard at the entrance to a high security area may no longer be required. The cost of their salary, taxes, insurance and benefits can add up quickly to over $70K annually. An automatic entrance control system requires only occasional human intervention when there is an alarm or bypass condition. Significant insurance savings may also be available. A building with an automatic mantrap entrance control system will have lower premiums. The cost of the state of the art Access Control Vestibule™ can be recovered in less than one year based on savings in security labor costs alone.
