The Access Control Vestibule™ or Mantrap Security System
Here’s How It Works
There are several names for this important entrance security system such as mantrap, security vestibule, security portal, access control unit, entrance control system, Access Control Vestibule™ and others. This mantrap entrance system is a unique and sophisticated entrance and exit security system that stops robbers and robbery teams from entering your premises with such weapons as assault rifles, shotguns and handguns. Use of this mantrap system establishes a line of defense outside your bank, credit union or other high security building.
The Access Control Vestibule™ replaces the original building entrance door system and the security doors of other security sensitive buildings. The mantrap security system construction consists of a bullet resistant glass enclosed by bullet resistant aluminum frame and a bullet resistant ceiling. The Access Control Vestibule™ is divided into two separate chambers – one entry and one exit. Control of the doors is achieved through coordination of exit devices, magnetic locks, infrared sensors, and a metal detector. A facility employee operated remote control panel for the mantrap system provides for communication, status information, and allows override of all functions.
Operation:
The Access Control Vestibule™ is designed to limit access to a building entrance in several stages :
Entry:
To gain access to the lobby an individual enters the unit by opening the unlocked entrance door D1. The mantrap system’s sensors identify the presence of a person in the chamber area and the entrance door D1 closes behind the customer. The entrance door can not be opened from the outside while the chamber is occupied. The person passes through the metal detector and is scanned for possible metal weapons. If no suspicious item is detected,
the inner door D2 is unlocked allowing entrance to the lobby. If the metal detector is activated, the inner door D2 will remain locked and the operator is alerted of a possible security violation. The operator has the option to request the person to leave, set up re-scanning, or override the system. Once cleared, the person may enter the lobby. People entering the entrance chamber can also vacate through the entrance door D1 if the system denies them access. If the system senses the presence of un-scanned individuals, inner door D2 remains locked. Two persons may enter at the same time such as parents with children or people requiring assistance, as long as both individuals pass successfully through the metal detector.
Exit:
To exit the secured area the person approaches inner door of the Access Control Vestibule™ and immediately enters exit chamber side of the unit through the inner door D3. The person steps through the chamber to the outer exit door D4. Once the door behind is closed and locked. The mantrap entrance system simultaneously unlocks the outer door D4 allowing the person to exit freely. When exit door D4 closes and the chamber is empty, the inner door D3 is again available for the next customer to leave the building.
